What does the GEO score check?
The GEO score rates content from 0 to 100 on nine signals that make a page easy for AI answer engines to understand, trust and quote. Five are measured directly from the text; four are graded by an AI model acting as a strict reviewer.
| Signal | What it looks for | Weight (long-form) |
|---|---|---|
| Answer-first | The page and each section open with a direct answer an AI could quote | 18 |
| Citable facts & stats | Specific numbers, dates and named examples | 14 |
| Question-based headings | H2/H3 headings phrased as the questions people ask | 12 |
| Entity clarity | Your brand named explicitly, not just "we" | 12 |
| Structured formatting | Lists, tables and step-by-step sections | 10 |
| Authority & E-E-A-T | First-hand experience, named sources, data provenance | 10 |
| Scannability | Short sentences, ideally under 20 words on average | 8 |
| Quotability | Standalone sentences that still make sense out of context | 8 |
| Original insight | Data or a point of view not found everywhere else | 8 |
How do I read my score?
- 85 and up (A): well structured and quotable. Focus on authority and original data.
- 70–84 (B): solid. One or two fixes, usually answer-first openings or more specific facts, will lift it.
- 55–69 (C): AI assistants can use it, but a competitor's clearer page is more likely to be quoted.
- Below 55 (D–F): rewrite the opening of each section as a direct answer, and turn headings into questions.

FAQ
- What is a GEO score?
- A GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) score estimates, from 0 to 100, how likely AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews are to understand, trust and quote a piece of content. It combines measurable signals, like question-based headings and specific facts, with an AI-graded review of answer quality and authority.
- Is the GEO score checker free?
- Yes. You can check 3 pages or drafts a day with no account. GEO Pilot users get a GEO score on every piece they create, plus re-scoring after each edit.
- Does a high GEO score guarantee AI citations?
- No. AI assistants also weigh how well known and trusted a site is, and what other sources say. A high score means the content itself is easy to quote, which is the part you control.
- Why is my score lower for a URL than for the same text pasted in?
- When you check a URL, the checker reads only the main article and keeps its headings, lists and tables. If a page builds its headings or lists with plain styled text instead of real HTML headings and lists, that structure is lost, and AI crawlers lose it too.
- Do you store the content I check?
- No. The page or text is scored and returned to you, not saved. We keep only an anonymous count of checks per day to enforce the free limit.
